We love mixing it up at Project Bly, and nothing looks better with our global finds than the clean lines of midcentury modern furniture. Today let’s talk chairs. Functional, comfortable, simple, and so very versatile, mid-century modern chairs are timeless investment pieces that compliment everything from antiques to contemporary accessories, art and rugs. Take a look at some of our favorite chairs designed by Arne Norell, Charles and Ray Eames, Peter Hvidt and Hans Wegner styled with market finds from Marrakech and Mumbai.
(1) Leather and wood Sirocco chair by Arne Norell
This 1960s leather and wood safari inspired Sirocco chair by Swedish designer Arne Norell just begs to be placed on a plush berber rug.
(2) Molded fiberglass chair by Charles and Ray Eames
Charles Eames famously once said, “The role of the designer is that of a very good, thoughtful host anticipating the needs of his guests.” These chairs designed in 1950 by Charles and his wife Ray (who incidentally hails from Sacramento, California) were once seen at dining tables across the country. We think they make for great accent pieces and pair perfectly with big bold floor art like this antique Lion rug from Mumbai, India.
(3) Cane backed chair by Peter Hvidt
The elegant curve of the arms of this cane- backed chair by Danish designer Peter Hvidt looks great with brass accessories like this vintage teapot from Mumbai.
(4) Lounge chair by Hans Wegner
The straight clean lines of this Hans Wegner arm -chair compliment this subtle and intricate kilim from Marrakech.
