Having spent years as a wandering journeymen, honing his trade in workshops across Germany, Martin Kober moved to the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1583 and become court painter of King Stephen Báthory and Queen Anna Jagiellon. After the King’s death, he went on to paint official portraiture for various imperial courts, finally ending up in Krakow, employed by King Sigismund III Vasa. Read Less
