The British would also introduce the Colonial bungalow and the Anglo-Indian villa. A fusion of Western and local architecture, bungalows and villas maintained features like verandas, ventilation grilles, and high ceilings, while adding rooms and distinctly Western ornamentation. These types of residences would become particularly popular amongst Malacca’s Chinese elite, who built some of the grander homes you see in the city today.
