This antique Shirazi kilim rug, with its rich earth tones and strong geometric shapes, is named after Shiraz, “the city of gardens and poets” in Iran. “Shir,” which means “lion” in Farsi, is also the root of the Hindi word “Sher” (remember Sher Khan from The Jungle Book?).
