A Japanese folk fabric art whose name translates as ragged or tattered, boro literally means ragged or tattered and refers to a method of using fabric scraps and remnants to preserve the life of a piece of cloth. Passed down over generations these textiles were used in domestic life by peasants and is a perfect example of the ancient Japanese Buddhist tradition and saying "mottainai". Both a word and a value, it means too good to waste, and to have gratitude for what you have.
