Destination: Mumbai, India

With more plot twists than a corkscrew, Bundal Baaz is kind of like Aladdin on steroids. Young Raja is a poor boy, whose mother and sister mortgage their house so that he can attend school in Mumbai. There he falls in love with the rich, beautiful Nisha, whose father wants her to marry boxer and class bully Ranjit. After graduating, in order to support his family—now at the mercy of a money lender—Raja goes door-to-door collecting bottles and boxes for recycling. In a moment of existential frustration, Raja kicks one of the bottles, out from which pops a genie. Though Raja attempts to refuse the bungling genie’s help, the bottle-dweller insists, and after a series of comic mishaps, it seems as if Raja might actually win Nisha and live happily-ever-after. But then the spurned Ranjit gets a hold of a ring that can summon an evil demon and kidnaps Nisha and her father, spiriting them away to the underworld, where the genie’s powers don’t work. Will true love prevail?
