Above all things, the Katu people believe in living life in harmony. Firm devotees of higher spirits, in particular the Creator Spirit of the sky, the beliefs of the Katu are recorded in two places: the stunning designs of the Katu textiles, and in the walls of the community house. 

Skilled artisans, most Katu women have been working a backstrap loom since they were ten years old, and could probably tell you the stories behind the hundreds of beads that adorn each handwoven fabric, many of which are  also reflected on the walls of the village community houses. 

There are many life lessons to be learned from the animals carved onto the outside pillars of the house and we are particularly fond of the image of a monkey holding a coconut - a good reminder not to hold onto things for too long.
