Known for her singing chops (no playback here), as well as her choice of unconventional roles, Sinha was so dynamic that she copped the top billing in most of her 1960s/70s films, stealing the show from the poor guys who were supposed to be playing her “hero.” Having appeared in such classic films as Pyassa and Dhool Ka Phool, Sinha has said that her favorite role was in Jahan Ara, which entailed “grueling Urdu classes and learning royal tehzeeb.” She is a four-time winner of the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
