Made wealthy by the booming trade that passed through its ports, Malacca was living large at the turn of the 16th century, and it was not very long before envious eyes turned their attention to the thriving city, ushering in an era of European colonization. Painted by our friend Sherman, a second-generation Chinese-Malaysian who has a shop on 2nd Street between Heeren and Jonker, this poster depicts the archipelago during the Portuguese occupation of Malacca, which lasted from 1511 to 1641.
