Handmade by the Red Dao tribe, these herringbone and wave-etched silver bangles were bought from the women of Ta Phin in the North of Vietnam. Collected over a women’s life, each inscribed bracelet marks a momentous occasion in the wearer’s life. We loved seeing the older women of the tribe wearing the bracelets stacked up their arms, a stylish testament to a life well lived.

In the Red Dao tribe if a boy falls in love with a girl and wishes to marry her, he will ask his parents to order a pair of ‘love bracelets’ and take them to the house of the girl. Considered a marriage certificate, if the girl does not return the bracelets the following day it means she agrees to marry the boy. If the girl returns the bracelets three times, it means she is determined to refuse him and will accept no more offers. Read Less
