Specific customs vary throughout the country, but dowries are pretty universal. A gift for the groom’s family, your typical dowry is bound to include some dozen samples of suzani, embroidered tapestries that the bride has spent many hours sewing. The one shown here includes "kurpacha," a kind of floor-mattress that serves as seating in most Uzbek households.
