  Street art—that most subversive of mediums—has a tendency to be political, and in a city like La Paz, where protests are pretty much de rigueur, it’s no surprise that the walls are veritable manifestos of a very vocal and opinionated citizenry.
  
  One of the best-represented groups is La Paz Stencil. Made up of diverse artists with the common aim of “reinventing the urban landscape,” La Paz Stencil seeks to create “an artistic alternative to the bombardment of commercial and political messages that inundate the city.” Their work is often cheeky and ironic, but also, as in the case of this boy with his magical drum, at times very beautiful. We found this particular stencil on a wall outside the Tambo Club,  located in an alley just off Avenida 16 de Julio.
