A reign of that length was no easy feat. In 1603, a warlord by the name of Tokogawa Ieyasu took over the entire country, establishing a shogunate in Edo, modern-day Tokyo. As the lords of the largest, most prosperous fief outside of the shogunate itself, the Maeda clan knew that Edo was on the lookout for any inkling of military ambition in Kaga.
