  Beyond the craft villages of Hanoi, much of the country’s most intricate handiwork comes from a region many miles north, in the land where Vietnam and China meet. A 14 km hike from the market town of Sa Pa takes you past the hemp, paddy and indigo fields of the Hmong people and into the Red Dao village of Ta Phin.
