Certain crafts are still family run affairs. Bang and his family are some of the few Vietnamese craftsmen (and women) still making traditional water puppets. His mother moved to Hanoi in her early twenties to learn the art of carving at Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, and today she keeps watch over Bang as he carefully paints and carves figures into the buoyant sung wood.
